Repulse Records has released some very potent releases with American Death Metal bands in the last five years. Sepsism's debut album "Purulent Decomposition" can be added to that list. We contacted the band for an update.



1. When and where was Sepsism started ? Could you give us a brief biography ??

SEPSISM was born in 1990 in a harsh, hateful warzone, also known as Pacoima, California. From the beginning of SEPSISM's existence, we've always had different members in the band except for me and Fernando. We put out three demos over the years and now the debut album, Purulent Decomposition.

2. How did you get in touch with Repulse Records ?

After a deal we had with this other label went bad, Dave of Repulse liked our music and wanted to put it out.

3. Why do you do Death Metal ?

It's what we like. We also listen to other forms of music, but deathmetal is what we want to play.

4. Please give us a full insight to your album "Purulent Decomposition". The recording, the tracks, the concept, the line up on the album and the art- work.

The art work was done by Joe Petagno and we recorded at Moon Studios by a real cool guy named Tom. The line-up on Purulent is Fernando (vocals), me (drums, and Leon (guitar). He had to play bass on the recording. The whole concept of the songs have to do with reality, gore and really sick thoughts which are the results of over drinking all night long.

5. Please give us an insight to your lyrics.

We all pretty much write lyrics and whatever's on our minds at the time we put down on paper, but our songs always have been offensive, sick, gross, whatever!

6. How would you place yourself in the American Death Metal landscape? Which bands would you compare yourself with ?

We are contributing our way of doing deathmetal to the underground and that's the way we see it, and we are having fun doing it. So we don't sit around and compare ourselves to anyone.

7. What is your view on today's Death Metal scene ?

There's a bunch of bad ass bands out there. Sometimes it's hard to keep up.

8. What is your political, religious and philosophical views ?

To tell you the truth, I don't give a fuck! Fuck politics! Fuck Bill Clinton. Ha, ha ha. I mean, of course I have my own view on a lot of issues, but I don't think you want to get me started! Besides, I'd rather keep to myself.

9. I guess Sepsism is not your day-time job. How is the lives of the members of Sepsism ?

Well, Leon breaks his back everyday, I think he's a mover or something. Fernando is undercover in some department store, and, right now, I'm currently unemployed, so I sell drugs and pimp women. Just kidding.

10. What is your plans for 1999 ?

Play as many shows as we can, release new material, and try to stay sober.
