From the wastelands of Canada comes Sacramentary Abolishment; an ultra- brutal Black Metal band. Both their two CDs have got good reviews somewhere else in these pages and we found in necessary to ask the band for an explanation. Verminaard answered our questions.

1. Hello Verminaard. When and where was your band formed?

S.A. was formed in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in mid-1993 by Paulus and Wor, With Verminaard joining in late 1993.

2. What is the main philosophy behind your band and it's ultra- brutal sound and music ??

Total hatred and apathy towards our fellow man. And to be extreme as possible at all times, without writing conventional sounding material.

3. Your two CDs (both CDs got good reviews somewhere else in these pages) are very brutal and primitive. The main trend in the Black Metal scene today is to make the music more commercial like Folk Music (Ulver's second album), and Prog Rock (Arcturus new CD). What is your view on this trend and the present state of Black Metal ?

I can respect bands wanting to expand their musical ideas. I happen to like Ulver's second album quite a bit. Regardless, I feel that metal has been far too saturated with wimpy ideas, like loud highpitched keyboards and female vocals, etc. Metal should, in my eyes, stay brutal and extreme. That is what metal is: Harsh and abrasive. This also attacks the idea of names, like Viking Metal, folk black metal, symphonic forest metal, etc.. What it all boils to is METAL, and that is all that people should be focusing on: writing good extreme metal.

4. Wise words indeed......You have released your two CDs on Catharis Records. What kind of record label is this?

Catharsis is an excellent label to be on for us. We have total freedom to do whatever we wish. Troy is an excellent person to do business with. Also, now that PHD has taken up the distribution rights to our label, things are being spread much better. I have no complaints about where we are. It is all done on an honour system as well. Technically, we have signed no deal with Catharsis, and we are free to sign elsewhere if we wish.

5. Do you have any tour plans?

We are planning for a European tour in the spring (Mid-May) of 1998. Hopefully it'll be financially viable. If not, we'll just end up doing our large country of Canada in the summer months.

6. What is your future plans for your band?

Many more CD releases, and a lot of live performances. We look forward to finally getting out on tour, etc. so we can spread further our spirit of armageddon upon this plane.

Good luck with the future. We will keep an eye on this band 'cause when it comes to pure brutality & mayhem; Sacramentary Abolishment is among the most interesting bands.
