Obscenity from Germany released a hell of an impressive album 2. February on Morbid Records. This album, named "Human Barbecue", has really impressed us and given both our web magazine and 1998 a very good start. We contacted Obscenity for the full story of their new album.
Guitarist Jens Finger tells us the story.

1. When and where was Obscenity started ?? Could you give us a biography ??

-We started in 1989 in Oldenburg, Germany. Sascha, Oli, Henne and two other guys played Death Metal from the beginning. Later Thimo Gerhardt joined Obscenity to play bass (now: The Now Noise !). I myself joined Obscenity in 1994 to replace former guitarist Jirk. In 1997 Jens Claussen came into the band on bass guitar, after Thimo decided to quit. That’s the current line up now.

2. Your first two albums are no longer available. How is these two albums compared to the two albums on Morbid Records ?? Are there any plans for re- releases ??

- The first album "Suffocated Truth" is more Death- Thrash and the second album "Perversion Mankind" is more like a Grind album; very fast. The production of those two isn’t that good as the two following albums. The distribution wasn’t very good (you know..the record companies !). I think they won’t be re- released ever again. We have(and want) absolutely no contact with our former labels.

3. "Human Barbecue" is a very impressive and varied album. Could you please tell us more about the album and it’s material ?

- On "Human Barbecue" there are 11 songs with a total playtiime of about 55 minutes. 8 brand new songs; 2 re- recorded songs from our first album "suffocated Truth" ("Utter Disgust" and "Life Beyond"), and a cover version of Slayer’s "Raining Blood".

4. Compared with your previous album "The 3rd Chapter" from 1996; "Human Barbecue" are much more Death Metal orientated. Was the reason for this (slight) change of direction ??

- Do you think so ? Hmm ! I don’t know, we just write songs as always. We don’t sit together and discuss about how the next album should sound like. We just record what we wrote and that’s basicly the same all the time. Maybe it’s because of the guitars. We chose a different amp and a different recording technique this time.

5. Germany has never been known for it’s Death Metal bands, except from Morgoth and Atrocity. What is your view on the German Death Metal scene ?

-Actually; I don’t wanna talk about other Death Metal bands from Germany, cause there are no really Death Metal bands here, except from Fleshcrawl (four CDs on Black Mark -ed). And we don’t have a very good relationship with Atrocity, but that is a different story. Death Metal in general is not very popular in Germany, but we don’t care anyway. The only problems is that you are not often given the chance to play live.

6. You included a version of Slayer’s "Raining Blood" on the CD and none in this magazine was too happy to get another version of this classic track. Why did you do this ??

- Well, we played the song live some times and we fucking love that song. We are all great Slayer fans (so are we -ed) and it was something new for us to record a coversong after four albums. Of course no cover- version is better than the original, especially from Slayer.

7. What is your plans for the coming months and year ?? Any upcoming tours ??

- We have absolutely no idea.
8. Do you have a merchandise list ??? From what address can the band be contacted ??

- For merchandise; you can write to Morbid Records or directly to Oliver Jauch. Pirschweg 5a 26150 Oldenburg, Germany.
Both addresses have informations and news about Obscenity.
Thanx a lot for your interest in Obscenity !
All at this magazine want to thanx Obscenity for this interview, wish them good luck and recomend their new album "Human Barbeque".
