Krabathor does not need any introduction. This Czech band has been one of the main European Death Metal bands in the five years. They have toured this planet relentless and built up a considerable following. Their new album "Unfortunately Dead" has just been released and an American tour has been completed. We caught up with Christopher for the latest news.



1. When and where was Krabathor created ? By whom ?? Please give us a full biography.

We have started in 1984 by me and two friends of me. In 1988 we have done three demos called Breath of death, Total destruction and Brutal death. In 1991 we have done demo tape called Feelings of dethronisation and afret this demo tape we have signed contract with label from Czech republic called Monitor records. We have released Only our death is welcome 92, Cool Mortification 93. We have changed label. We have signed with Morbid records and we have released Lies 95, Mortal Memories 97 and Orthodox 98. Now we have out new CD under System Shocj from Germany called Unfortunately Dead.

2. Please tell us more about the chosen band-name. What does it stand for ?

In the past we have seen one movie about mediciman called Krabat and we have used it for our name. From beginning we have been Krabator and in 91 we have changed nbame for Krabathor.

3. Please give us a brief presentation of your earlier albums.

Old albums are more in the old death metal school. Lies and Orthodox are more in new way of the Death metal.

4. Back in '99, your two first albums "Only our Death Is Welcome" and "Cool Mortification" was re-released on one CD through Morbid Records. Please tell us more about this release.

Actualy those Cd's are from 92+93 in 99 they have been re released by Morbid records. First issue of those CD' s have been distributed mostly in Czech epublic and Slovakia and it was reason why we re-released them for rest of the world. Is good when people can know all about us.

5. Why did you leave Morbid Records ?

We have been so long time under them and we would like to try different label. We have decided for System Shock and of course we have got better offer from them.

6. Why did you join Impact Records ?

As I told we have got better offer and we seen good work of this label. It was reason why we have joined them.

7. Let us talk about the Martyr "Murder X - The End Of The Game" album. Please tell us more about it.

When we have been on tour with Malevolent Creation, Master and Krabathor, we have been jamming with Paul time to time and we have decided do this project. Paul have arrived to Czech republic and over one month we have done songs and recording.

8. If my memory serve me right, Martyr was meant to be the co-operation between you and Skull from Krabathor and Paul Speckmann from Master. Then Paul Speckmann joins Krabathor and all three of you are suddenly Krabathor. What happened ?

Before the Martyr project, we didn' t know what it would be. We didn' t know it in the recording time of this project. Than we have got problems in line up and I have called Paul and he joined us. I know it' s bad that we have done Martyr and Krabathor in the same line up but we didn' t know that before.

9. What has Paul Speckmann added to Krabathor ? What is the future of Master ?

As I told you I called him and he agreed to joined us.I guess he like Krabathor and Czech republic and it was reason why he joined us. Master have done new demo tape and it' s before recording of new CD.,

10. What is in your own words the musical difference between Martyr and Krabathor ?

In the Martyr we have broken all borders which are specific for Krabathor. project is project and you can do what you like. Of course we like to stay in brutal music. We have tried to do the difference between Krabathor and Martyr. Martyr is just project and we don' t know if we will do new CD. But there are great songs and we don't like to hide them. We have decided to play some songs from this CD on Krabathor shows too.

11. Please give us a presentation of "Unfortunaly Dead" album. The recording, lyrics, the concept...the full story !!!!

This CD is more in 80' s because we have it in our minds and bodies, we have started with music in this time. We have done a lot of changes in the band line up, label and we decided to change studio too. I have to tell you that we have done best work we could in this time of recording and creating of the songs. Lyrics are about things around us, from life. Life is enough to write about it. We have put concept of CD to little bit "vikings idea", and we have done last song as epic. We would like to do each CD different and it' s mean that for upcoming CD we will use something new.

12. What is the main difference between your new album and your earlier releases ?

As I told you we have done a lot of changes and we have changed studio too. In recording of Martyr we have found that the studio "Shaark/Czech republic" is good for us and we have decided to do this. I' m happy with sound. Guitars are better that before. This new CD is more in 80's but it' s still hard kind of the music, I haven' t done some changes in creating of the music I just did what I like and felt.

13. How was the American tour with Disgorge (Mex) ??

In USA we have played with Vehement from Chicago and with Disgorge we have played in Mexico only. Both tours were great, Mexico was beautiful, we have spent great time over there. We have got offer for next year and we will go there again.
