The Swedish Goth Rock band Desire is a new band for us, but they have just released their second album. We caught up with them through their promotion company in Germany
1. When and where was Desire started ?? Could you give us a brief biography ??
It all started back in 1991. Jarmo Nummi and Juha Vall decided to start up a gothic band with their own special gothic touch. After a few lineup changes Desire was complete with the current lineup.
2. Please tell us more about your background.
There ain’t much to tell, really. Arto is from the northern part of the
country, but the rest of the band are from Långshyttan.
3. Your released your debut album some time ago. Please tell us more about this release.
On the first album we had only 2 weeks of studio time, and a smaller studio. Also we had much more time for the song writing.
4. How did you get in touch with Noxious Records ??
We sent our demo/promo CD to different labels and Noxious was the one
that came up with the best deal.
5. Your new/second album "There Where Candles Fade" has just been released. Please tell us more about this album. For example the recording, the lyrics, the writing process and the featured
tracks.
On the new album we had 3 weeks of studio time, in a new and larger studio with much more sophisticated equipment. Both of the albums were recorded at The Abyss Studio with Peter Tägtgren.
6. How would you compare your two released albums ?
The new one was much more inspired by the Goth metal scene.
7. It is my impression that the new Goth Music scene follow the same pattern as the Romantic New Wave scene did 20 years ago with bands like ABC, Duran Duran and Human League. The similarities are striking. The Romantic New Wave scene was a reaction to the Punk music; the new Goth Metal scene is a reaction to the Death Metal scene. What is your view on this ???
We think that Goth metal and Death metal are quite similar, they are both a part of the metal genre.
8. Following my last question; what would you call your music ??
It’s Goth rock with metal influences.
9. What is your political, religious and philosophical views ?
We are trying not to involve politics and religious beliefs in our music.
10. Are members of Desire involved in other bands/projects ?
No.
11. What is your view on the Metal scene in USA contra Europe ?
USA has got the big bands, but Europe has got the best bands.
12. What are your plans for the coming months and year ?? Any tour plans ??
We have no bigger plans at the present time. Perhaps a coming tour next summer or spring.
