A Thrash Metal scene has finally emerged in Scandinavia, over ten years since the rest of the Thrash Metal scene died. The most famous bands are Bewitched, Inferno, Maze Of Torment and Gehennah. But these bands has now got worthy competition from Denata. Their debut album "Departed To Hell" is a very good Thrash Metal album. They sent us a copy of it and we caught up with them for an interview.
1.When and where was Denata created ? By whom ?? Please give us a full biography.
Ponta and Tomas formed Denata in 1998 as a project. We had been in some local bands before but that was along time since last and we were both hungry to play some real metal. We made a couple of songs and recorded them and self-financed a vinyl EP. The vinyl EP got pretty good response and we really liked our style that we had created so we decided to find a bas player and transform into a band. The bas player that joined us were an old friend to Ponta named Roger. After Roger had joined us we made a lot of new stuff and after a while we record the album Departed To Hell. That's the story this far ……..
2. Please tell us more about the chosen band-name. What does it stand for ?
The name Denata is taken from the latin word denatus which means dead.
3. Please tell us more about the EP.
We recorded some tracks on an 8-channel tape recorder and released the EP on our own label GHOUL RECORDS. The EP was only printed in 320 ex. The sound really stinks but it has a great attitude.
4. Please give us a presentation of "Departed To Hell" album. The recording, lyrics, the concept…..the full story !!!!
We recorded the album in Guja studio and it took about 3 days. We really liked the equipment in the studio cause they use a 24 channel analog studio and real metal shouldn't be digital. Most of the lyrics are about over-sexual, weird shit and evilness. The total concept is nothing. We just want to share our weird thoughts.
5. How would you compare your new album with the EP and earlier material ?
The sound of the new album is exactly how we want it to be as the EP don't represent the right sound picture of DENATA but we still think the EP have great songs. Earlier material than the EP doesn't exist cause it contains our four first songs we ever made.
7. Why Thrash Metal ? Is there any difference attitude wise between the Thrash Metal scene and Death/Black Metal scene in Sweden ?
What kind of Death and Black metal do you mean? If we are talking about old black metal like Celtic Frost, Bathory etc we think its great but when it comes to late 90's Death and black we're most of the time puking. Thrash metal has always been the same simple asskicking music and that's why we like it.
8. After the release of "Departed To Hell"; have you done any tours, festivals, gigs etc. etc. ??
We was on a tour but we never came in through the entrance cause we didn't have any tickets. So we had to drive home again and that sucked big times hehe.
9. What is your future plans ?
Right now we are almost done with songs for a new album and we will record it this winter or spring. We will enter Guja studio again and I hope some label out there is willing to release if for us.
10. Where can Denata be reached ? Any mail order list ?
The easiest way to reach us is to contact us by email denata@telia.com or visit our homepage. there you can download MP3's, order our records and much more. We are working hard with the distributing of DTH right now so I hope it will be easy to find in your local store some day.
11. Because I am a big Séance fan; do you have any contact with these Death Metal gods ? Any news ?
Yes we have contact with some of the Seance members. Since the "Saltrubbed eyes" album Jensen and Bino has left the band. Seance are still rehearsing with a new line up and we know they have material for a new album but we don't know how, when or if they will release it.
12. Is there anything you want to add to this interview ?
Thanks as hell, thrash till you bleed and crack some brews.
Nä inte add men sockervadd gillar vi , hare bra!!!!
