Allison is a new band from Spain, but I guess that we will hear a lot more about this band in the coming years. They do the kind of music that made Sepultura big. Only ten times better. Allison has started the next millenium with their debut album, and we contacted them for an update.
1. Let us start with the beginning. When was Allison started ?
ALLISON gets together in 1996 after been playing for three years under another name. With
their previous project they managed to sell a thousand copies of their earlier demos and toured
around Spain during that time.
2. Please tell us more about your earlier demos and material.
"Dialogue" was ALLISON's first demo poduced by a small record label and was distributed
nation wide. "Dialogue" mixes metal, punk and hardcore music. "Stop The Bloodshed" was the
second demo and was used as a promotional CD. With this demo ALLISON signs with Goldtrack
Records and with this label they managed to record their first long play album, under the title
"Symmetry".
3. Please present us to your new album/debut album " Symmetry". The recording, music, artwork, booklet, line - up etc. etc.
"Symmetry" offers 8 tracks of pure crossover metal. Each track is full of adrenaline and
brutal riffs but at the same time full of melody and feeling, creating ambients full of strenght and
passion. "Symmetry" surprises fir its high quality sound and its excellent production. It was
recorded during the summer of 1998 and was produced by our friend Sergio Cascales.
4. Please tell us about your lyrics.
The general thematic in the album is about knowing and observing everything that surrounds us
before judging it. All themes are treated in an objective way, and are felt in us first, as we are
only no more than victims of all that surrounds us, not shit-made preachers. We touch matters as
education in our youth, and the grade of control that we have in it. We also touch in "Crush" the
unavoidable and anguishing twilight of occidental civilization; alienation, self-destruction of our
own being by drugs and all this from a point of view that's neither dogmatic nor moralist. Always
knowing attitudes that seem interesting to us in the human being.
5. According to the press sheet I got together with the promo CD; Allison were formed "with the objective of giving fresh air to a Punk/Metal scene settled since '93". What does this mean ??
We said just that ALLISON tries to introduce a new sound to the boring punk-metal scene of
the sound of Spain.
6. How would you describe your music ?
We like to define our music as crossover. with this term we express the mixing of different
styles, all of them important to ALLISON's concept of music.
7. Why did you sign on Goldtrack Records ?
From all the record labels interested in ALLISON, Goldtrack gave us the best options to
develop our music. Eventhough this label is specialized in "heavy metal bands", now they are also
interested in bands that offer new alternatives to the metal sound, such as ALLISON.
8. Allison is a strange band in the Death Metal dominated metal scene in Spain. Well, that is my impression. What is your view on the metal scene in Spain ?
We think that foreign metal bands are still moree xperienced that national bands. The main
reason is that those bands are usually supported by a strong production and they manage to
develop a better sound. Our main goal is to achieve a high quality sound in oredr to compete with
the rest of the bands world wide. With "Symmetry" we have managed to break into the most
important European metal scenes. ALLISON has been able to introduce "Symmetry" in countries
like Germany, England, France, Denmark, Italy, Belgium, Holland....
9. Your hometown Malaga is the place where the rich and famous from the whole world live. Well, if the glossy magazines in the shelves in the local newsagent are to be believed. How is really Malaga ?
There'a always some kind of difference between what you can see and what you cannot.
Naturally, in tourist leaflets the real problems that many people here is suffering are not shown,
and even if you have the chance to walk on the beaches of Malaga you wouldn't notice it. But it's a
natural law which says that when more than a million people have to live together in society,
problems are common anywhere in the world.
10. What is your plans for 1999 ?
It's already planned to go on a small tour in the north of Spain and so promoting "Symmetry".
